Samuel Rohrer is readying his solo LP Continual Decentering for release on February 7th via the Swiss drummer’s Arjunamusic label. Known for his improvisational approach and work in free jazz circles, Rohrer has collaborated with a host of jazz-oriented musicians like Daniel Erdmann, Vincent Courtois, Frank Möbus, Claudio Puntin, and Achim Kaufmann to name a few. Additionally, though, Rohrer is known for a genre-defying approach to the drum kit using it to trigger various modular synthesizer processes in the creation of a music that combines jazz stylings with various electronic tropes.

Continual Decentering was recorded between November 2017 and June 2019 and it finds Rohrer exploring his unique drum set-up with “mostly real-time (live) performed explorations.” “The I-I” provides an excellent entry point to the upcoming record with its deft combination of acoustic percussive elements and electronic texturing. Sonorous drum hits set a simmering, upbeat mood as various keys and synths fill out the recording with rich detail. The result is a jaunty vignette exuding a retro-futurist vibe. The video below was created by the experimental multi-media artist Andrea Familari.
