Songathon Launches Global Songwriting Competition to Raise Awareness and Funds for Covid-19 Relief

Here’s a good opportunity to make creative use of some extra time. The NYC-based competition Songathon (known for its 24-hour, in-person songwriting competitions) has joined forces with GlobalGiving to raise awareness and funds to combat the COVID-19 virus worldwide. Songathon Prompt Challenge is an online songwriting contest open to musicians globally ages 18 and over.

This year’s guest judges include singer/songwriter RuthAnne (who has penned hits for artists like Britney Spears, Niall Horan, and JoJo), indie-pop singer/songwriter and international touring artist VÉRITÉ, and rock duo The Score (who is signed to Republic Records and set to go out for their third US headline tour this year). Prizes for the competition include private mentoring sessions with guest judges, features on Songathon’s blog, and a free website from Bandzoogle.

The Songathon prompt for the competition is the word “distance,” and it can be used as the “song’s title, concept, or simply as a jumping-off point.” The contest is currently open, and it runs through May 1st. You can submit your final entry by midnight on that date in the form of a YouTube video. Audience Choice Award voting begins on May 2nd and runs through the 8th, with Judges Choice and Audience award announced Monday, May 11th. So, get writing!
