Mux Mool will celebrate the tenth anniversary of his breakout release Skulltaste (Ghostly International), with Skulltaste II due out July 10th via Young Heavy Souls. Discussing the project and upcoming album, Brian Lindgren explains:
“It’s hard for me to pinpoint what made Skulltaste as influential as it was. I was just a guy in a room making beats and learning how to make beats, and I think that can be heard in the album. I also think that’s why it makes such a good backdrop for all creative endeavors. Skulltaste II aims to be a more mature version of that.”
Mux Mool might have began as just another musician making beats in the bedroom, but his rhythmic prowess and hip-hop influenced production style quickly displayed the artist’s raw talent. Skulltaste II finds the producer continuing to build upon that earlier blueprint, and while it might be a more mature version of the former, it is no less gifted and exhilarating.
“Sorry for Your Gloss” combines funk-fried bass and an infectious upbeat rhythm. Heavy and woozy but always nimble, the track’s steadily rising elevation finds its release with a joyous vocal sample extolling “the club, the heat” before imploring “play that beat.” A celebration of San Francisco and all things disco, Mux Mool’s ability to pilot this cut through increasing levels of tension and deliverance makes for quite the sweaty ride.
