Acid Pauli is readying an LP tribute to modular synthesis entitled MOD due out on September 18th via his label Ouïe. The electronic project for German musician and producer Martin Gretschmann (Console, The Notwist), he donned the moniker in the early 2000s as a computer-based live act. Over the last ten years, the artist has leaned towards a more modular-based synthesis as evidenced on his 2012 album Mst out on Nicolas Jaar’s Clown & Sunset label, as well as 2017’s BLD out on his own imprint.
In addition to exploring modular synthesis in the realm of sound, the release also finds Gretschmann producing a video for each of MOD’s tracks using a now discontinued video synthesizer called the Vidiot from LZX Industries( look for Cromagnon to replace it). On the Acid Pauli track “Sublime Frequencies Of Cairo,” data points of sound ripple out from waves of deep sub-bass as delicate percussive elements keep time. The video follows suit with sound-activated parameters morphing a video signal into a composited grid of pulsating images.
