Lumiere has a new video for his track “F,” off the Greek-based artist’s upcoming LP Phases due out September 18th. The work of Thanos Christodoulou, the musician’s upcoming record combines his piano-based compositions with post-classical orchestration and free jazz elements. With his project’s name referencing Louis Lumiere and his brother, the inventors of the motion-picture camera, it seems it is no accident that Christodoulou’s music is so cinematic. Like waves crashing ashore, pulsing strings and piano open the track “F” with a spellbinding sense of drama.
The musician’s self-directed video, edited with footage culled from online sources like Pexels and Artgrid, follows suit with stunning footage shot high above a busy urban intersection. Lumiere’s fluid sense of composition is on full display on this track as the song morph’s effortlessly with the inclusion of saxophone and percussion. However, it’s the addition of a vocal track, a strained argument between two lovers, that really adds a sense of tension and mystery to the proceedings. With emotionally charged, but oblique images, Christodoulou’s video amplifies this cut’s dramatic narrative.
