Seattle’s Halfshell Records have a great way to support the Black Lives Matter movement and racial justice with their upcoming Call & Response compilation due out on October 31st. Full proceeds from the 30-track effort will be donated equally between the national and local organizations: NAACP, ACLU, National Bail Out, Okra Project, King County Equity Now, Real Rent Duwamish, and Border Angels. The release features tracks from some familiar names in the Halfshell orbit including Wet Fruit, WEEED, Uay, Blackwater Holylight, and Baywitch.
Baywitch reports that the track “Hellfog” will be on the trio’s upcoming third LP, but that it was originally written after their 2018 tour. Returning to Seattle they found their home city blanketed by wildfire smoke, prompting the song’s title. Recorded in 2019 at the Vera Project, the cut finds conditions hairy on the high seas as surf guitar star Lila Burns carves her way nimbly through the fast-breaking waves. Dropping in on a monster, she mixes exhilarating melody with heart-stopping danger while bassist Sicily Robinson and drummer Jake Meierdierck‘s low-end rumbles like pounding waves.
