Thollem has a new video for “Heal Ourselves” from his recently released LP Hot Pursuit of Happiness 2020 #1. Just the Public Service Reminder we need at this time, the album’s lead track combines the musician’s more recent “pop” driven approach with poignant vocals regarding the heart of America itself, Democracy. While political theatre is currently used to divide us, Thollem’s artful message reminds us that healing our social angst begins at the micro-level with each person.
The video for the cut was directed by painter/choreographer/dancer Peter Sparling, and he also stars in it. Here, a flag pictured in black and white might depict the stark nature of the upcoming 2020 election while also symbolizing those polar oppositions as the thorn which divides us. Discussing the video, Peter probably speaks for our Collective Unconscious when he explains:
“I’m treading some dark places these days, watching the world and having nightmares of being lost in foreign cities filled with fires, smoke, darkness, fighter jets overhead, looking for the subway, the dance studio, the theater, searching, going nowhere. It can’t help but end up in my body as I improvise in front of the camera.”
