Arab Strap have a new video for their track “Compersion Pt.1” off the Scottish duo’s upcoming LP As Days Get Dark due out March 5th on Rock Action. The pair’s first album in sixteen years, the effort finds them expanding on their wry storytelling with thrilling compositions and the kind of bright production style that belies the record’s more despairing turns. Describing their 7th LP, Aidan Moffat explains: “It’s about hopelessness and darkness. But in a fun way.”

“Compersion Pt.1” pulses with a post-punk vibe as bright guitar melody and driving bassline circle around the rhythm of a crisp kick and snare. The vivid production style is the perfect soundscape for Moffat’s half-spoken, half-sung lyrics, and it adds presence to each tantalizing revelation. Discussing “Compersion Pt. 1,” a forthcoming but poetic tale, the singer explains that the song “depicts a quest to find the ever-elusive unicorn; to bond fluidly – and safely! – with the like-minded and adventurous, in the comforting arms of an anonymous hotel … and the stark realization that you never really wanted it.”
