Karger Traum return with a new video for their track “Joocha” from the duo’s 2020 LP III out now via DKA Records/Fixed Rhythms. The Oklahoma-based project got their start when Blake Lusk invited Taylor McKenzie to improvise German vocals over his solo project Holy Siege. Initially occupying a territory somewhere between Einstürzende Neubauten and Suicide, the pairs Industrial and EBM leanings have only grown more nuanced through the years, adding cinematic flair to their dancefloor-oriented tracks.
“Joocha” is the standout lead cut on III. Counter-pointed keys add a sense of wistful longing with a warm pulsing bass to set the edge over a syncopated beat. Meanwhile, McKenzie’s dynamic but more hushed delivery is a step back from the sometimes menacing approach of a track like Such A Dream’s “Familienlied.” But it finds the singer entering poetic new territory.
Trey Millward directs the video. Following up on his earlier effort off III, “Das Ende,” he takes a “non-figurative” approach here. Using slow circling paint colors and suspended oil patterns, his images often appear cosmic as countless galaxies seem to swirl into fantastic designs.
