Hospital Productions has released Painjerk‘s Mission Invisible – Kill the Poor as a 2xLP available in yellow with black splatter vinyl. The prolific Japanese noise artist, real name Gomi Kōhei, has been a longstanding titan of the experimental sound scene since the 90’s with no end currently in sight for his expansive output. Mission Invisible was unreleased at the time of its recording, reported to be just after his now seminal classic cassette, gallon gravy. Like all of Painjerk’s output, it was recorded live with no overdubs.
Across five tracks, this “lost” classic is an unrelenting testament to the artist’s aggressive style. Throughout, filtered textures of noise confront the listener with cavernous blasts and ear-splitting scrapes. Like some sort of extreme defragging event akin to a sonic exorcism, Painjerk’s cataracts of sound open torrents of noise that scour the energy body with a harsh abrasive. While Mission Invisible – Kill the Poor would leave the average listener in a pile of dust, those steeled in sonic extremes will find Painjerk’s aural assault just the psychic surgery they needed.
For those desiring a deep dive into Painjerk’s work, a visit to his Bandcamp page is strongly suggested.
