Balvanera has a new video for the track “Medium,” the lead cut on their new 2021 album Courses of Action, out now digitally and as a limited edition cassette via DKA. The Buenos Aires-based duo comprised of Agustina Vizcarra and Lucas Palavecino spent their formative years involved in the local hardcore and punk scenes, but feeling a need to explore new sonic avenues, they began moving in an electronic direction with the release of a self-titled EP in 2016.
Inspired by EBM’s direct kinetic appeal, Balvanera crafts rhythmically propulsive bass-driven music. On “Medium,” Agustina Vizcarra adds her hypnotic vocals to the approach as she icily delivers lines like, “Memory is not an instrument for exploring the past/But its own theatre.” The result is as urgent and engaging as it is danceable. The video for the track is directed by Nata Failde and is based on a concept developed in collaboration with the duo. Driven by “Medium”‘s forward motion, the visuals combine a protagonist’s headlong movement with the towering architecture of bridges and roads for a dream-like visual experience.
