Benjamin Finger released his Auditory Colors album last month via the Italian label KrysaliSound. This week the Oslo, Norway-based artist returns with gorgeous, psychedelic visuals for the effort’s second single, “See See See.” Like the initial video for the album’s eponymous track, the filmmaker shot the new work on Super 8 and also edited it. Here, his source material is a ceremony filmed outside of Oakland, CA.
Looping the various segments of the ritual event, he creates a kaleidoscopic array of dancing participants. With their motions and gestures caught in the stutter of time, but with that linear construct now slipping back and forth through past and future, the images take on an otherworldly quality. Likewise, on “See See See,” Benjamin Finger’s looped sonic elements, threaded through with ululating and intoned vocals from Inga-Lill Farstad, create a heady and ecstatic experience as the song’s prevailing lightness gathers all in its updraft.
