The South London-based audio/visual art duo c / a have announced they will release their debut album THE ONLY WAY WE KNOW TO HAVE FUN on July 9th. News of the upcoming effort came with a mind-bending new video for the track “Docile Goetica.” The album was created during the summer of 2020 using a method the pair describes as a form of digital scrying whereby they conjure esoteric hybrid forms like “medieval speedcore, esoteric grime and horse riding ambient” from disperate source material like medieval and Gaelic music samples.
On the lead single “Docile Goetica,” c / a combine “arpeggiated Rachmaninoff samples, plundered pirate UK grime samples, FM flutes, and a 303 clone” into a head-spinning aural assault. Regarding the equally intriguing visuals for the track, attributed to ENGLAND’S COUNCIL OF LEGISLATION AND GOVERNING BODY OF HYPER REAL SIMULATIONS AND CONSTRUCTS, we are told:
“The music video for Docile Goetica expands upon the study of hidden power structures that govern our world and our psyches through daydreams, allegories, history and various traditions such as legend tripping taken from a virtual point of view.”
