Sergio Calderón & Céli Lee “Iron String” EP (Entertaining Violence)

Sergio Calderón and Céli Lee have just released a new EP entitled “Iron String” via their label Entertaining Violence. Though they formerly recorded four instrumental albums under the moniker MU, the pair’s latest EP effort follows up on the 2020 debut LP The Eternal Dice, the first release using their own names. Recorded against the backdrop of the duo’s other creative endeavors, Lee’s oil paintings and Calderón’s writings, the three-track EP also includes an accompanying limited edition art book and poster.

The “Iron String” tracks are also influenced by the musician’s love of 1970s-era Prog Rock and their continued use of improvisation during recording. Utilizing guitar, synth, vocals, and percussion, the tracks were recorded during the Fall and Winter of 20/21. Following a varied compositional approach, Calderón explains:

“During the past year, before we started this record, we worked within new musical ideas practicing and developing new compositions. Throughout the recording of ‘Iron String’, each track had its own composition journey. When coming into the recording, we did it very quickly to keep the spirit fresh and giving space for improvisation and spontaneity, embracing new tunes and elements on the spot.”
