The Brazilian garage rock label Mandinga Records will pay homage to the legendary Atlanta-based glam-punk trio Subsonics with a various artist tribute album entitled You Didn’t Think We Could Take It, Vol. 2. Following up on Volume 1, issued in 2020 on 7″ by the label, this newest offering features Subsonics’ covers from an international host of band’s including Italy’s Ugly Sounds, Brazil’s Bang Bang Babies, UK’s Black Mekon, as well as the US-based artists Kid Congo Powers and Disturbios, to name a few.

Below, you can listen to Disturbios cover the cut “See-Thru Rhonda.” The project is the work of the NYC-based duo Matt and Rocío Verta-Ray, and they describe the song as: “Trailer park hijinks. A loaded pistol, a no-good boyfriend, but Rhonda takes the consequences.” In the spirit of the nerve-tight original, Disturbios’ keep things stripped down with drum machine, keys, and guitar. However, with Rocío Verta-Ray leading the vocal charge, things are a little less angst-ridden and a bit more surreal.

You Didn’t Think We Could Take It (Subsonics Tribute – Vol 2) is due out on June 18th, but you can pre-order your copy today.
