Swallow the Rat “Fall Away”

New Zealand’s Swallow the Rat is back with a new video for the track “Fall Away” off their upcoming split 12″ LP with the NYC band Clone due out May 21st on Headbump RecordsNews of the release came earlier this month when we took a listen to the tracks “Speak, Memory” and “Preservation Plan” from Clone and StR, respectively. Having met up in NYC after playing a show on the eve of quarantine, the two bands struck up a quick friendship. With their respective tours canceled, a split 12″ must have been the next logical conclusion.

On the Swallow the Rat track “Fall Away,” the band’s blistering shoegaze is under the influence of some head swirling psychedelics as circling walls of guitar, throbbing bass, and mantric vocals make for a blissed-out ride into outer space. Skye Ashbrook directs the video for the track. Using a montage of found footage, the video narrates a dark tale of urbanization as 19th century NYC spreads across the country into dead-end suburbias and wasted youth. Sounds like a good time!
