William Basinski and producer Preston Wendel (aka Shania Taint) return to their SPARKLE DIVISION project with a new EP entitled “CLASSIFIED” out now on Temporary Residence Limited. Following up on their 2020 LP To Feel Embraced, the duo returns with three tracks of disco-infused lounge house. The collection includes the track “Beehive Switchblade,” written after the release of To Feel Embraced, as well as the cuts “Booty Buster” and “Studio 54,” the first two recordings made by the duo.
The kinetic energy on “Beehive Switchblade” is infectious, and it permeates all of “CLASSIFIED” with a communal dance floor urge. The track’s deep bass groove is continually highlighted with shuffling snares, celebratory handclaps, and hard-driving hi-hats as 1970s disco transforms into the House music of the ’80s with the help of the iconic 808. Basinski’s free-form sax playing on the cut seals the deal with a nostalgic throwback vibe and the promise of hot summer nights.
