The Italian composer Caterina Barbieri is launching her own label entitled light-years. Much like the artist’s own creative exploration, the label will be multidisciplinary in approach. As such, it will be in conversation with music, art, film and technology. Barbieri explains:
“After a period of unprecedented isolation, I am personally really inspired by the idea of exploring a more collaborative and independent format, where diversity, inclusivity, co-creation and mutual support are primary values to define a more sustainable landscape for its artists and creators.”
Out first via the new label is the track/video “Knot of Spirit,” which finds Barbieri working with the vocalist/composer Lyra Pramuk. A cathartic journey through sound, the soaring composition features spiraling expanses of atmosphere and melody, as well as Pramuk’s gliding, air-born vocals. Caterina offers:
“I strongly believe in the power of sound as an agent of change and the idea behind this project is to make deep listening effortless and explore the transformative, mind-altering potential of music, as well as its socially empowering effects.”
