The Oslo, Norway-based musician Benjamin Finger is readying his album Planet Exile for release via the UK label Woodford Halse this coming August. Today, we check out the video for “Moonway Exit,” the album’s first single. While the artist’s earlier effort from April of this year, Auditory Colors, featured a kaleidoscopic array of sense blending ambiance, Planet Exile‘s initial listen-in is a more percussive-driven affair. A dreamy mood still prevails here thanks to the radiating warmth of organ tones and the psychedelic lullaby of chiming bells, but bit-crushed rhythmic elements add plenty of scruffed up texture to this captivating track.
The video for “Moonway Exit” was created by invisible plan. It features abstracted, close-up images of miniature gears spinning, which is an excellent visual echo for the feeling of being inside some celestial clock while listening to the track. Likewise, the artist’s use of RGB tearing, with its jittery beat-triggered introduction of flickering color, aptly reflects this cut’s skittering beat patterns.
