UK film and TV composer Pram of Dogs has released two new videos for his AA single “BMV I & II,” out now via the Phantom Limb imprint Spirituals. Following up on his 2020 debut, Matter – Anti, also out via the sub-label, the anonymous and enigmatic artist returns with two more tracks of rarified ambiance. Pram of Dogs reveals that the tracks find him joined by a fellow film composer. Without revealing names, he explains:
“After the release of Matter – Anti in September 2020I finally got round to digitizing a collection of rare old recordings I had on DAT. They were like nothing I had ever heard before and became my escapism from lockdown. We over-dubbed and processed these recordings hundreds and hundreds of times, slowly piecing together and creating beds of sound that we improvised and composed over.“
The “rare old recordings” that the artist refers to are a collection of choral music. They provide incredible inspiration for the slowly expanding and contracting tapestries of sound woven from repeated processing and careful orchestration. Like a sonic wormhole joining the past to the present, Pram of Dogs opens a doorway in time through which warm waves of undulating sound chase their tail in warm celestial sunlight. The video follows suit as processed images ebb and flow in colorful bursts of glowing light.
