Rachika Nayar is readying fragments for release in cassette and digital formats from Commend / RVNG Intl. on August 13th. The effort is the latest installment of THERE, “an ongoing series of music recorded beyond but inspired by the imaginative efforts of Commend, RVNG’s Lower East Side space and storefront of the past six years.” Recorded, mixed, and mastered in Nayar’s bedroom fragments is an interesting companion piece to the musician’s 2021 debut, Our Hands Against The Dusk (NNA Tapes). Unlike the initial effort, where the guitar was employed but often processed beyond sonic recognition, fragments uses raw guitar loops instead.
The first listen-in from the album comes in the form of the track/video “clarity.” Here, a luminously sketched guitar line forms a mantric background as gentle washes of tone radiate a clear, illuminating light. The video for the track is a collaborative effort directed and shot by the Brooklyn-based filmmaker Frances Arpaia and edited by Rachika.
