Patrick Ellis is readying his debut full-length The Deserter for release on August 18th via FLAU. The New York-based producer, composer, and digital artist blends instrumental hip-hop, chamber pop, and field recordings into a 45-minute journey through an ever-colorful and psychedelic audio world. Recommended to anyone who likes “flocks of grassland birds, lego projects, doggy daycares, female weight lifting contests, pet bats, imaginary maps, and soundtracks to movies that never existed,”The Deserter offers respite and daydreams of distant places.
“Neon and Wheat” is as good of a starting place as any. Built around a plangent hook with a groovy island-pop vibe, this cut is like landing on a sunny off-planet archipelago filled with curious musical creatures. Neon waves of blue wash at your feet while tiny birds warble in the surf. Better hurry and grab a spot on the warm sand, though; it sounds like this once private beach is filling up fast.
