Joyer know some days it just feels like your moving backward through life. The brother duo of Nick and Shane Sullivan is preparing their Perfect Gray LP for release on September 24th via Julia’s War. In preparation for the record, the pair have released a new single/video for the album track “Worst Thing.” The cut is a slowcore jam that conjures hazy memories of 90s era slacker rock in the best of ways. Shane Sullivan explains that the song has to do with personal anxiety and “the way I tend to build certain situations and fears up in my mind to feel way more significant than they actually are.“
While the brothers both come to their musical project from a film background, the video for “Worst Thing” was directed by their friend Rhys Scarabosio. Turning a simple idea on its head, he yields mind-bending results. Discussing the concept behind the video and providing insight into its production, Shane explains:
“It follows a guy who steals from a street performer and a chase ensues, but it all plays backwards. It was a pretty intense shoot, we filmed it in two days, and it involved a lot of running through crowds in busy public spaces, including the scene where we had to stage the theft in a mall. We didn’t have permits or anything, and Rhys wanted to get genuine reactions from strangers, so we had to film everything inconspicuously, and there were a lot of times we thought we’d be getting into some trouble, but it all worked out.”
