If you’re like us and can’t get enough of Tropical Fuck Storm’s Gareth Liddiard (The Drones), you’ll be happy to know he’s also a part of the trio/super group Springtime with drummer Jim White (Xylouris White, Dirty Three, PJ Harvey) and pianist Chris Abrahams (The Necks). The group is currently readying a self-titled LP for release on November 5th via Joyful Noise Recordings. In anticipation of the upcoming album, Springtime has a wicked new video directed by Matt McGuigan.
Turns out Liddiard’s uncle is the celebrated poet Ian Duhig, twice the winner of UK’s The National Poetry Competition award. So that’s where the fella gets his amazing gift for gab, those frenetic diatribes so lucidly sane as to sound on the edge of insane. Discussing the Nietzschean cut “Will To Power,” Liddiard offers this blizzard of words in explanation:
“The human race as a whole just can’t seem to do nothing. They have to do more, more, more. Why can’t they just lounge about like lizards or kangaroos? What’s wrong with that? Look at rocks, they exist. Job done, game over. No need to do or be anything more. And why does the universe exist? For something so fundamentally elegant and simple it sure is overcooked. You want simplicity and elegance? How about just not existing at all. Why the need to be anything? it’s so needless. Will To Power is just a disco jam about all that.”
