Brilliant animation this week from Stefan Nadelman for Ramona Falls’, “I Say Fever” video, a nightmarish, gothic-Western allegory exploring the dark, exploitive-side to human relationships. Like his killer work for Menomena‘s “Evil Bee” video, not soon forgotten, and some of the best work coming out in music video right now!! Connecting the dots, Ramona Falls is Brent Knopf’s solo project when he isn’t another third of the excellent Menomena!CONTINUE READING

A lot of stuff to get to this week so let’s jump in head first…Vampire Weekend will be back January 12th with their second LP, Contra, but till then you can enjoy the super-fine suburban sing-a-long “Cousins”. Or cross the tracks to the bad side of town for Kurt Vile‘s new album “Childish Prodigy”, a scuzzy and fuzzy find, with the kick ass video “Freak Train” delivering a long haired anthem from a slighty psychotic personality.
The Horrors are back this month with a new single and a “Whole New Way”. Well, let’s call it, “Continuing the Evolution Into a Real Band With Something to Say”. We like it. And to finish things off in the Video Dept., three more from Matador. Spiral Stairs is Pavement’s founding member, and former frontman for Preston School of Industry, Scott Kannberg. Friends call him Spiral now, and if you call him friend, he just might steal your pills…”Stolen Pills” and “Cold Change” off his new album The Real Feel. To wrap up, faux Manchester-scene rock via Philly with Cold Cave‘s video for the title-track from their debut LP Love Comes Close.
Also up this week, a few MP3s to check out…Japandroids “Young Hearts Spark Fire” and their touring mates Surfer Blood with “Floating Vibes”, the opening track on their new LP ‘Astro Coast’. (We will feature live material from both bands in the coming month!) And to finish off the week one more from Yoga, “Fourth Eye”…burned out bedroom doom metal fucks with rickety filter banks.
